About This Workshop

The workshop explores the hypothesis that the pandemic has reawakened early trauma schemata. Three models will be explored Porges’s (2003) Polyvagal Theory, Galle’s ( 2014) MNEI: Mind, Neoroendocrine, Immune Model and Vogt’s (2006) SPIM: Somatic Psychological Interactive Model. Case studies of children and adults will be explored within these models and treatment examples will be illustrated. Material will be relevant to the early practitioner as well as those with more advanced psychopharmacology training.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the key neurological and neuroendocrine structures involved in both the psychological and physiological stress response.
  2. List at least 3 key responses in affective regulation. Examine the hypothesis that the pandemic is an unconscious predictor of fear/dorsal vagal response.
  3. Identify determining, modulating and psychological/physiological variables in trauma response and treatment according to mind-body framework of  Polyvagal theory, MNEI and SPIM models.
