Activities of the IPF

  • The IPF has helped sponsor continuing education for psychologists and non-psychologists

  • Since 2001, the IPF has supported the annual IPA "Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award" to a deserving Iowa employer. Funding has been provided when expenses associated with the award exceeded the $1000 APA grant that IPA receives annually

  • The IPF has established an Iowa Psychological Research Endowment (IPRE), which pledged to make the following annual awards, beginning in 2001, as long as there is sufficient money in the IPRE and the quality of the applications is sufficient to merit awards.

  • A $4,000 grant for a research project involving the use of applied psychological principles to improve the quality of the Iowa workplace.

  • A $1,000 award to assist an individual or organization to complete a grant request for a project that will use applied psychological principles to improve the quality of life in Iowa.

  • IPF sponsors the Jenny Cress Memorial Fund, in memory of the daughter of an IPF board member.

  • IPF has sponsored the Student Poster Awards for the Iowa Psychological Association Spring Conference since April 2005

  • IPF sponsored the Middle School Adjustments public forum of the IPA April 7, 2005 in Ames IA

  • IPF funded 2005 IPA state-wide press release announcing availability of pro-bono psychological services to victims of hurricane Katrina

  • IPF sponsored a Silent Auction Fund Raiser at the IPA Spring Conference 2006

  • IPF Awarded Campaign for Commercial Free Television $2,500.00 May 2006

  • IPF Awarded $1,000.00 to Homeless Shelter of Iowa City in October 2006 following a request for the award from the IPA Diversity Committee.

  • IPF has invited IPA Committees and the IPA leadership to apply for funding of projects and initiative that are consistent with the IPF mission statement. They have particularly encouraged IPA to apply for funds for possible compensation of a student or psychologists to conduct research for IPA legislative issues.

  • Awarded IPA in May 2007 the amount of $1500 to be used for researching legislative issues involving for the purpose of educating decision makers.

  • June 14 and June 28, 2008 sponsored 4 workshops in Quad cities regarding research of Dr. Douglas Gentile from ISU on the negative effects of media on childhood development.

  • July 2008, RAGBRAI stand at Eldora

  • Since March 2010 IPF has supported IPA Public Education Committee to exhibit at the Beyond Rubies Conference in Cedar Rapids for dissemination of public education materials

  • 2011 supported IPA Training Director expenses through anonymous $1000 donation

  • In 2014, the IPF raised $10,000 for the IPA Post Doc project. This effort was spear-headed by then President Suzanne Zilber.

  • In 2015 IPF partnered with IPA and leveraged IPF's IRS status to apply for a and received a $50,000 grant that was used for the IPA Post Doc Training project. The grant was from Telligen Community Initiative.
  • The IPF will consider other worthy requests and causes which are consistent with its mission and bylaws, such as, but not limited to, funding scholarships, enhancing the teaching of psychology and public information programs about psychology.

  • In 2014 the IPF partnered with Dr. Gentile of the Iowa State University.  Dr. Gentile is an internationally known researcher in the area of the effects of media on children.  Through this collaborative partnership a DVD was produced to introduce Dr. Gentile’s body of scholarship to those who can benefit most.
  • In 2014 IPF partnered with the IPA to apply for and received a $50,000 grant that was used for the IPA Post Doc Training project.
  • In 2015 IPF partnered again with the IPA to apply for and received a $50,000 grant that was used for the IPA Post Doc Training project.
  • In 2015 The IPF developed a relationship with The Partnership for a Drug Free Iowa (PDFI) to support their capital campaign though a $1,000 contribution.
  • In 2015 sponsored the undergraduate student poster competition at the spring IPA conference with recognition awards provided to three outstanding student research projects.
  • In 2015, the IPF partnered with St. Ambrose University to provide a training event with keynote address; ADHD Grows Up: Assessment & Health--Related Implications by Dr. Molly Nikolas, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences and the University of Iowa.
  • In 2017 the IPF provided two $500 awards to early career psychologists to support efforts to begin their careers to serve the people of Iowa.
  • In 2018 The IPF provided $600 in support to the IPA spring conference
  • In 2018 provided $500 in grant funding to support the use of artwork to help individuals’ recovery from trauma
  • In 2018 the IPF provided three $550 awards to early career psychologists to support efforts to begin their careers to serve the people of Iowa.
  • In 2018 the IPF celebrated it’s 25 year anniversary of cultivating public understanding of the crucial role psychology plays in strengthening the health, productivity and happiness of all Iowans
  • In 2018 provided a $500 grant for advocacy efforts for victims of trauma.
  • In 2019 the IPF provided three $550 awards to early career psychologists to support efforts to begin their careers to serve the people of Iowa.
  • In 2019 the IPF provided $500 in support to the IPA spring conference.
  • In 2020 provided grant funding of $3500 to support a cultural competency and ethics conference with keynote speaker Dr. Melba Vazquez.
  • In 2020 the IPF provided a $160 grant to support a University of Northern Iowa undergraduate students’ research in the topic of suicide prevention.
  • In 2020 the IPF provided two $250 awards and one $500 award to early career psychologists to support efforts to begin their careers to serve the people of Iowa.
  • In 2020 the IPF provided the Iowa Psychological Association a $5000 grant to support the development of a Director of Professional Affairs (DPA) position.
  • In 2021 the IPF provided a $250 financial gift to Iowa City High School to support the NESTT (Navigating Emotions and Stress Through Training) program which is a new resource for students at City High.  The skills, services, and support of the NESTT are backed by research rooted in trauma-informed practice to create a safe space for all students and a trauma-sensitive school experience.
  • In 2021 the IPF provided a $250 financial gift to Please Pass the Love, a program committed to increasing school mental health (SMH) supports to improve the quality of life and educational opportunities for children, families, and educators as well as offer culturally responsive comprehensiveservices and evidence-based supports to school systems.
