In the age of easily accessible online trainings and declining in-person conference attendance, the IPA Program Planning Committee is trying something new with the 2024 IPA Spring Conference being our only in-person conference in 2024.

Day 1: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: Current Understanding and Treatment Considerations
(6 CEs) March 22, 2024, 9am – 5pm
Day 1 Registration

In this workshop, Dr. Jacobi will review the diagnosis of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and how to distinguish OCD from other anxiety and related disorders. The psychological treatment of OCD will be offered including an in-depth discussion of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) with emphasis on exposure with response prevention (ERP). Ways of managing OCD in child and adolescent populations will be offered and maintaining factors, including symptom accommodation, will be discussed.

David M. Jacobi, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist who serves as the clinical director for Rogers Behavioral Health in Sheboygan, where he provides supervision and training for its team of behavioral specialists and therapists. Dr. Jacobi specializes in using cognitive behavioral therapy for the treatment of OCD and and anxiety disorders. Prior to his current role, he was the lead psychologist of Child and Adolescent CBT Services for Rogers Behavioral Health System. Dr. Jacobi has an extensive practice background in the treatment of anxiety disorders in the United States and Canada and has conducted research related to OCD and anxiety. He received his doctorate from Chicago Medical School, and completed his internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Jacobi has presented to numerous clinical and academic audiences at the local, regional and national levels. He is a member of the International OCD Foundation and has served as one of the trainers for its Behavior Therapy Training Institute, an intensive training course in cognitive behavioral therapy for mental health professionals.

Day 2: A Tour Across the OCD Spectrum
(6 CEs) March 23, 2024, 9am – 515pm
Day 2 Registration

This workshop will take a deeper dive into important considerations in OCD treatment, as well as deepening the understanding of the phenomenology and treatment of the related spectrum conditions. Specific OCD topics include a social justice approach to diversity/identity related themes in OCD treatment, treatment of co-occurring OCD and PTSD/trauma, and the use of imaginal exposures for tricky presentations (e.g., obsessions related to suicide, taboo sexual topics, and violence towards others). An overview of the spectrum conditions, including Hair pulling disorder, Excoriation Disorder, and Hoarding Disorder, as well as evidence-based treatment approaches will also be discussed.

Chad Wetterneck, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist and clinical director of Trauma Recovery services at Rogers Behavioral Health, where he developed the adult trauma recovery programs at the residential, partial hospital, and intensive outpatient levels of care. These programs have treated over 5,500 patients in the past 10 years. He completed his doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, his internship at Baylor College of Medicine and the Menninger Clinic, and Post-doc at The Anxiety Disorders Center. He is an adjunct professor at Marquette University and UW-Milwaukee, and is the founder of the Recovery from OCD, Anxiety, and Depression clinic. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed articles primarily on OCD, PTSD, diversity, and intimacy and a book on treating sexual obsessions in OCD, has won awards for teaching and research, and has been grant-funded for studies on treatment outcome.
